Sand River Catchment Restoration

Title | Restoring the Ecological Reserve in the Sand River Catchment
Client | Sabi Sands Wildtuin
Date | March 2010 – December 2010 Linkd
The Project | Linkd was commissioned by the Sabi Sands Wildtuin to do a situational analysis of the Sand River Catchment with a view to restoring the ecological reserve in the river. This work included a stakeholder analysis as well as a review of the social and economic characteristics of Bushbuckridge Local Municipality.
The findings of the situational analysis suggested a political, economic and ecological problem, rather than simply an ecological one, and Linkd facilitated a series of stakeholder engagement and visioning exercises to develop a strategy to link improved catchment management to local economic development. The strategy, based on integrated rural development, catchment management and biodiversity management, was adopted by key decision makers at local, provincial and national level.
