The Project | The National Waste Management Strategy is being developed in terms of the recently promulgated Waste Act, and follows on the first strategy published in 1999. Linkd has been appointed project manager for the development of the strategy, and is leading a team of experts in undertaking the baseline research and developing the draft strategy. The strategy will set out five programmes for addressing waste management challenges in South Africa, including proposing targets and standards to be implemented in terms of the legislation".
 
The draft framework for the strategy was released for public consultation, and the baseline research was conducted. The draft strategy was published in the Government Gazette (Vol. 540, No.33277, 8 June 2010, http://www.sawic.org.za/documents/563.pdf) in June 2010 for public comment.
 
The website for more information on the development of the strategy is www.wastepolicy.co.za. The final National Waste Management Strategy will be finalized in early 2011.
